went up to the reservation again last night to visit my stack from saturday, which was still standing. I brought along a sheet of paper and a lighter. filled up the top with some twigs that were lying around; it took a while to get it lit because everything has been very wet lately, here in new jersey, but that just means the fire was safer to start.
I didn’t think to set my camera to a larger aperture, so I didn’t end up with any good, clear, billowy shots of dramatic flame, just these hazes of light. wasted opportunity. perhaps another time.
the smoke drove the copious black flies away, and the smell of it in the night air was truly reinvigorating. I’ll be leaving new jersey for my home in maine for summer vacation soon, and I’ll miss being out there on the outcropping.
