here’s one done to try and get back in the swing of aggregated mass balance. I ended up doing lots of little embellishments once I got to the point where the outer “petals” of the bottom taper started shifting, nearly going out of control. the weight of the elements above keep things in order; the outer edge would spill out otherwise.

these details up top were satisfying as a contrast to the rote work of slow expansion I had to work through on the bottom.tapers 05tapers 06

one of the important things about stacking for me is the mix between the brute and the delicate, the mindless and the focused. I don’t find this piece especially interesting or successful, but it does exemplify some of the procedural aspects of stacking that keep me coming back to the same beach and the same stones month after month.tapers 07
