sometimes you just can’t get anything going. I visited another spot in fort williams park, this one behind a fence and past a cliff. the rocks here were a lot rounder than the ones in the coves where I usually work, and I couldn’t think of anything to do. simple point balances were all I could muster the thought to do.
I got to thinking about color and contrast, another topic I tend not to touch with my work. I’m slightly color blind and have never had much sense for the mix of hue and shade, and sometimes I feel disappointed by that. it’s so easy for me to jump to form as a mode of expression or a source of personal entertainment, and when building something big, adding color to the selection criteria after shape and size reduces the set of useful pieces to nearly nothing. nevertheless, I think I should start building with color.
